Lessons in Magnolia ISD

Please check this page for updates about lesson information with Mr. Dunn for the Magnolia ISD Schools.  Mr. Dunn will also provide students with written information for changes to lesson policy.

Lesson Policies
  • Lessons are approximately 25-30 minutes long during your band period, and are scheduled with your band director's consent.

  • The student is charged $20 per lesson: payment is expected at the first lesson of the month for the entire month.  At the last lesson of each month, Mr. Dunn will inform the student of their expected lessons for the following month.  On average, students will have 4 lessons per month.  

  • If a student must miss a lesson for illness, events, etc., they must notify Mr. Dunn via email or phone at least 24 hours in advance.  For instances such as school trips or testing where the student is notified longer in advance, Mr. Dunn appreciates notice at least one week in advance.

  • Mr. Dunn will make an effort to reschedule a missed lesson, if possible.  If a lesson is paid for but missed, that credit will go towards your next payment.
Trombone Materials
Required Lesson Materials:

Your trombone!
1 spiral bound notebook or 3 ring binder
Pencil
Trombotine or Slide-o-Mix
Small spray bottle with distilled water
Schilke Tuning Slide Grease (with lanolin)
All method books, solos, and photocopies currently used/provided in lessons.
Recommended Lesson Materials (6-8 Grade):

Your class lesson book (6th grade)
Introductory Melodious Etudes by Sieber/Raph
50 Recreational Studies by Sigmund Hering
Solo Literature chosen by student and teacher
Recommended Lesson Materials (9-12 Grade):

Melodious Etudes for Trombone Book 1 by Rochut
Selected Studies for Trombone by Voxman
60 Basic Studies Book 1 by Kopprasch
Lip Slurs by Edwards
Clef Studies for Trombone by Blazevich
BERP or Brass Buzzer that fits your instrument

Use the above link to reach the portal to download warm ups, exercises, and print outs that Mr. Dunn may have given you.  Please print out a new copy if you've lost your first!
